Discussion:
using LaunchBar to navigate file system in Save dialog - Leopard glitch?

Hello

I use the following steps to select target folder in a Save
dialog in BBEdit. As discussed below, it no longer works,
perhaps after Leopard install. I'm thinking it is a BBEdit
issue, because it works in several other apps (but not all).

01 create document
02 type Command + S to save
03 in the Save dialog, type a document name
04 type Command + Shift + G to get the "Go to Folder:" entry line
05 invoke Launchbar and navigate to destination folder
06 type Command + C to copy folder path
07 type Escape to exit Launchbar
08 type Command + V to paste folder path
09 type Enter 3 times to enter enter save

So, hands never leave the keyboard. (Note: steps 06-08 can be
replaced by Command + Shift + C which copies, leaves LB and
pastes in one command.)

In Leopard (I think Leopard was the point at which this
changed), however, something messes up the keyboard focus after
leaving LaunchBar with Escape - pasting does nothing. You have
to click in the entry line to give it focus to paste. (Tabbing
around the dialog to get to the entry line does not work.) The
"Go to Folder:" entry line no longer has the dark border around
it that is has when it is invoked, until you click it with the mouse.

I have tried this in several other apps with the following results:

- both methods (long method and Command + Shift + C short
method) work in TextEdit
- both work in Pages
- both work in Excel
- neither work in BBEdit (where I am most) - need to click on
line to give it focus before paste
- neither work in Photoshop (have to click line to give it focus)
- neither work in Word, and I can't even paste after clicking
the line - nothing pastes

Can any other Launchbar users confirm or refute this behavior?
Any ideas? I sorely miss this super-fast way to save documents.

thanks,

- eric

Same here. Works in TextEdit but not in BBEdit or Word because the
dialog box looses focus. Must be a Carbon/Cocoa thing.

But if it's a Carbon/Cocoa issue, then why does it work in Excel? As
far as I know, Excel is also Carbon.

I'm running Excel 2008, and it doesn't work in this new version. So,
it still seems like a Carbon-specific problem, but if it worked in
2004, perhaps the focus on the dialog box *could* be fixed in BBEdit
(at least).

BTW, I actually forgot about this feature of LB. Thanks for bringing
it back to my attention.
