I have a new mac book and have put BBEdit on it. I need to make the screen
data larger to see on this tiny screen. (big iMAC would be nice, I
admit.) Bruce Jenks ***@gmailcom

Go to System Preferences -> Universal Access.

Make sure you have a key binding set to turn on Zoom, by default mine
is ctrl-option 8.

You can set maximum zoom, and there are bindings for zoom in and out.

Howdy,

You can also try to hold the Control key and scroll up (e.g., two
finger scroll on the track pad). Ctl-Scroll Down reduces the
magnification.

Good Luck,

Hey Herbert,

That only works if magnification is turned on, though.

Howdy,

Maybe it's in 10.5 but I don't have Zoom turned on (just checked in
System Preferences->Universal Access) and it still zooms using Ctl-
Scroll Up/Down.

Hi Herbert,

I see it working with command Scroll UP/Down on leopard.

Sorry, I guess I was wrong :)

No, it's a completely separate setting, under the mouse settings.

Hold down the control key and roll your scroll wheel/ball forward.
Not sure how you do that on a laptop without a scroll wheel/ball.

Lister: What d'ya think of Betty?
Cat: Betty Rubble? Well, I would go with Betty... but I'd be thinking
of Wilma.
Lister: This is crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with
Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: You're right. We're nuts. This is an insane conversation.
Lister: She'll never leave Fred, and we know it.

On a MacBook Pro (1) in the Keyboard and Mouse control panel, check
"use two fingers to scroll." Also check zoom while holding (choose the
key of your choice). I use the control key. Then when I hold the
control key while using the two finger scroll, the screen will zoom in
and out depending whether my two fingers are moving up or down.

I find this particularly helpful on pages with small font size.

I have a new mac book and have put BBEdit on it. I need to make the
screen data larger to see on this tiny screen. (big iMAC would be
nice, I admit.)
Shouldn't the text size on a MacBook be approximately the same as an
iMac? After all, both have roughly the same pixel density (~100-110
DPI). In fact, I think it's only the hi-res 17-inch MacBook Pro (and
the iPhone, of course) that significantly exceeds Apple's ~100 DPI
standard.

Anyway, to make your text larger in BBEdit for just the *current
document*, go to View -> Text Display -> Show Fonts and choose a
larger font size from the font palette.

To change the default font size for all lists in BBEdit, go to:

BBEdit -> Preferences -> Application -> List display font

To change the default font size for all file content in BBEdit, go to:

BBEdit -> Preferences -> Editor Defaults -> Default font

A fixed-width font is probably your best bet for file content (e.g.
Courier, Monaco, etc).

Depending on whether you have BBEdit set to honor saved state and your
particular work situation, you may still see varying font sizes. But
I'll leave that issue for another time.

Hope this helps,
Dennis
